Crawl Space Repair - CleanSpace Encapsulation

CleanspaceDirt crawl spaces affect you and your entire house.  To make your home healthier, cleaner and more energy efficient, your crawl space needs to be encapsulated – separated from the earth and sealed from outside air.  Learn how to fix your dirt crawl space, properly deal with crawl space ventilation and protect your home and family.

A crawl space in Michigan can be a tricky environment.   Crawl space in these areas deals with elevated levels of relative humidity in the summer months and very cold air in the winter.  Call or contact Ayers basement systems online for a free crawl space inspection and estimate.

A vented or unconditioned dirt or concrete crawlspace under a home creates an unhealthy, destructive, and energy wasting environment.  The earth contains very high levels of humidity in the soil, and this water vapor moves up into the crawl space and continues upwards into the home environment.

These damp or wet crawl space environments are unhealthy and destructive places where mold grows and spreads by sending out microscopic airborne spores that rise into the upstairs with the natural upward flow of air.  Also, as most air is more difficult to heat or cool, heating and cooling costs are higher, especially if your crawl space is vented.  Insects and critters thrive in damp crawlspaces.  Rot and decay occur in these damp environments as well, causing structural damage to the organic materials, in particular the wood flooring system.

A crawl space only needs to be damp to be unhealthy.  In a home the natural air flow is from bottom to top.  This “stack effect” draws humid air and everything in it including odors, mold spores, upward into the living areas of the home, creating an unhealthy environment.  Many home allergens are caused from mold spores and dust mites, both of which thrive in environments with elevated levels of relative humidity.

The solution is the CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System.  Cleanspace is only available through Ayers Basement Systems, the authorized Basement Systems’ dealer in western and Mid Michigan.

Ayers Basement Systems has the entire line of Basement Systems’ crawl space waterproofing products available when water is present in the basement, including the finest sump pump system available in Michigan.

The Cleanspace crawl space encapsulation system:

The Cleanspace encapsulation system isolates a house from the earth, reducing relative humidity in the air.  The importance of lowering the relative humidity levels in your crawl space is that this is the only effective way in which a home owner can prevent mold growth, rot, and critters from living and growing in the crawl space – thus making the entire home healthier.

The Cleanspace vapor barrier liner consists of a heavy 20-mil-thick material manufacture in seven layers, with two layers of cord reinforcement, to help prevent tears and punctures.  The vapor barrier is blue on one side and white on the other.  The bright white side brightens the crawl space and allows you and other professionals, such as pest control contractors to crawl on without worry of puncturing or tearing the liner.  To easily see that your crawl space is free of mold and insects.  The liner is tough enough to crawl on and enables you to use your crawl space as storage – something that would have been unheard of prior to Cleanspace system.

Concrete crawl spaces should be fixed, as well, to offer better air quality and home energy savings.  Not only does a white liner really brighten up a crawl space, but sealing moisture from the permeating up through the porous concrete floor, will lower the relative humidity – helping improve energy efficiency thought the home giving you’re an energy savings.
